Alright, I am 25 years old, 5’2″, currently 122-123 pounds, nowhere near overweight.
My final weight goal will be around 115 pounds. I think it would be too hard on my body to aim for 110 lbs since I have hypothyroidism and cannot afford a gym, but I’ll do what I can. I lost 20 pounds since February.
I lost the weight by healthy eating, power-walking and some aerobics. It’s the best I can do without a gym so I power-walk for about an hour in my apartment hallway and use an Aerobics DVD.
Now, my only problem is that even though I see great results in the scale (the 20 lbs I lost) I am having a very hard time dropping a dress size.. I still wear the same size I wore 20 pounds ago. What can I do to lose a dress size?? Please note that I don’t have equipment and cannot afford a gym, so please recommend something that is easy to do at home.
Please don’t lecture me about calories and healthy eating because I know the whole drill. I eat healthier than anyone I know in my offline life.
Also, I am planning on getting pregnant by the end of the year.. it will be my first pregnancy, is it OK for a pregnant woman to be on a diet? Is she allowed to workout the same way she regularly does? I want to be able to only gain a minimum amount of weight.. is that medically healthy or even possible?? I don’t know much about these things, that’s why I’m asking.
Thank you.

You need to do muscle building exercise – squats, lunges, sit-ups, push-ups, burpees, etc. You may not go down a lot in *weight* but you will become slimmer and less flabby, which is what you want, right?
122lbs is a healthy weight for your height. Your recommended weight range is between 109 and 136 pounds.
It is not ok for a pregnant woman to be on a diet. You can eat right and healthy, but you cannot cut back as you would if you were trying to lose weight. Losing weight while preg is not good. When you are carrying your child, you will gain weight, so if you are planning on having a child then stop dieting now, so that you can assure the womb will be healthy for him/her. Your DR will let you know how much you will need to gain for your child to be healthy. You will not be able to workout out in the same manner as if you are trying to lose weight, you will be allowed to workout but it will not be hard workouts, they will have to be easy on the body, and if you over do it, your DR can and will tell you to stop and if you do not you will be on bed rest for the entire time ( you do not want that) You can do simple worouts at home without gym machines, such as squats, leg raises, push ups, etc, but again if you are wanting to get preg, then hold back on too many of these so that you can have a healthy baby. Unfortunately, I can’t answer the first part of your question because I am in a similar boat; however, I can answer the second part!
It is definitely OK (and advised) for pregnant women to exercise, walking is very good for your health and there are some other exercises that you can do. Some things are modified for pregnancy, to prevent harm being done to the fetus, but you can find a lot of books and videos focused on pre-natal exercising. The “diet” may be a different story…you should continue to eat healthy, obviously that’s very good for you and your future child, but you should NOT deprive yourself of any meals just because you feel you’re gaining what you think is too much weight. The amount you gain is not entirely dependent upon your exercise and eating habits, some of it will depend on your body and genetics. Don’t be too harsh on yourself if you gain more than you’d like, if you lost it once you can lose it again!
You need to incorperate some sort of muscle building technique into your routine. The other stuff helped you drop the pounds- now you need to work on the soft muscle underneath. Even if you have muscle, I suggest doing some crunches or some weight training (to build the muscle). Like someone already pointed out, you won’t lose any weight doing this (in fact, it may look like you put on a pound or two- muscle weighs more than fat), but it will help you drop the sizes. Focus on your problem areas (stomach being one of them). If you need some extra help, go to your local/family doctor and ask for a fitness/nutrition routine- they should be able to tell you exactly what to do in order to get the results you want.
It also may help to do yoga to stretch out the muscles you want to tone. (Also, your local hospital should have a few people who specialize in such things- you may even try asking them to give you some tips). Hope this helps.
