Working Out While Pregnant?

by Pregancy WorkOut DVD

I’ve always worked out about 4-5 times a week and have continued to do so since I found out that I’m pregnant, albeit on a more moderate scale. I used to do kickboxing and speed walking at 5 miles an hour on a 15 incline, but have now cut out the kickboxing and do elliptical, stationary bike, or walking at 3.5 miles an hour on a 15 incline.
I’ve also recently purchased a prenatal pilates DVD that I’m planning on starting soon.
Also, I’ve noticed now that I’m pregnant that I feel like I need more air, as if I need to take deeper breaths. Because of this, it’s harder to work out as well, but I know it’s healthy for the baby so I keep doing it.
Anyone else feeling short of breath? Are you working out during pregnancy? How often, how rigorous are your workouts?

Always talk to your Dr. Having said that it sounds as though you are being smart about cutting out some of the more strenuous things. Studies show that the more active you are the better it is for delivery and recovery. I push mowed my 2 acre yard up until about 5 months and I have twins! After that I had to stop because it was too much. I only have 4 weeks left and I go to the Y with my honey and walk on the treadmill. Granted it’s the lowest setting and only for about 20 minutes but it’s better than sitting on the couch! Just remember to listen to your body! Good Luck!

I actually just bought a gym membership a week before I found out that I was pregnant. I asked my doctor about it, and she said that the treadmill, and ellipticals are fine. She said just as long as your heart beat doesnt get over 130 the baby will be fine. I am not that far along yet, so I dont know if I will get out of breath quicker. I know that I am overweight, hence getting the gym membership lol, so with that alone, I am sure I will out of breath quick….:)

Well working out is fine just have to be careful and reduce the amount of exercise as you get closer to your due date. You are feeling out of breath because the uterus is pushing up on your diaphragm and restricting the room for your lungs to expand which is all normal. Just don’t over do it and you’ll be fine. Good luck and be safe!
