Ok. Well when I was pregnant with my now 2 yr old daughter I gained alot of weight (I went from 115lbs to 178lbs). I’m thinking (hoping) I might be pregnant but it’s too soon to test. I worked really hard losing all that weight (I’m back down to 117 finally). Is it safe to exercise while pregnant? I’m not going to try not to gain weight or anything, don’t worry. I just don’t want to gain 53 lbs again. I want to gain a healthy amount. I’m not talking about running or doing crunches or anything, but like maybe something like riding a stationary exercise bike a few times a week and going for walks… I also heard something about prenatal pilates… I was going to look into that. But anyway, my main question is: Is it ok to exercise when pregnant? What are some types of exercises that you recommend? Thanks alot! (Oh and just so you know I’m not bone skinny or anything. My weight now is healthy. I’m just short… only 5’3 and my doctor told me that the ideal weight for women is 100lbs for the first 5 foot + 5 lbs for each inch over 5 foot. So my ideal weight is 115lbs… but I’m close enough lol. I just didn’t want you to think I’m some anorexic girl obsessed with weight! Thanks!)

Short? Huh? I am a 4’10″ so you don’t have to worry about a thing – I am can’t even wear heels anymore. lol.
Anyway, exercise is absolutely safe during pregnancy (unless you have been placed on strict bed-rest, that it), and it is important to keep fit for labour and looking after a newborn.
The important thing is to keep it low-impact and low-balance. Walking, swimming and pregnancy yoga are great. I used to train for triathlons, so cut that down to walking and swimming as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Walking is getting uncomfortable (I am 29 weeks pg with twins and it is getting hot outside!), but swimming is still very comfortable.
I don’t know what your work schedule is like, but maybe you could take your little girl out for walks (or push her in a pram), so that you can chat to her while you exercise? That way, she can get used to exercising with you and will be keen to head out with her new brother or sister too : )
Pregnancy is not the time to embark on a strenuous exercise regime, but it is a good time to ease into regular moderate exercise that you can continue after pregnancy.
Best of luck.
yes, it’s perfectly safe, and recommended, to exercise during pregnancy. Normally you can keep up your present level of activity for the first few months no prob. There are some great books and mags to help you put a workout program together, or you can do a session or two with a personal trainer (just let them know before hand that you’re expecting) they can help you through the different stages.
My doctor recommended exercising with my pregnancies. Most doctors and websites will tell you to do moderate exercise. Yoga, pilates, water exercise are all great methods to stay toned, in shape and healthy during your pregnancy. With my first I gained 70 lbs mostly because I went into early labor at 32 weeks and was put on bed rest so I did nothing but eat! Good Luck if you’re pregnant this time around!
Working out while pregnant is definitely okay. My mom’s step instructor was still teaching the step class up to the week of the baby’s birth.
you should also google exercising while pregnant, there is lots of information on the web.
congratulations if you are pregnant!
its perfectly safe to exercise when your pregnant, its even reccommended everyday if you can, or 3 times a week if not.
the only thing that all physicians and doctors say is to no do vigorous exercise, so walking is a good option, a casual bike ride (if thats a comfortable position for you) would be good simple exercising. going for a run and dveeloping a heavy sweat is an example of vigorous exercise where your heart rate become a level that is unhealthily high for someone who is pregnant
goodluck!
