I am currently 31.5 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I’m just looking for some comparison with regards to weight gain during pregnancy.
I started out at 120lbs and I have gained about 30lbs already and I still have 6-10 weeks to go! I still eat healthy (95% of the time) and I exercise regularly (pilates and walking). I have been doing this my ENTIRE pregnancy. I feel great and my doctor has no concerns.
But I cant help but wonder… I see all these women on here that only gain 20lbs their whole pregnancy! I don’t get it. I have done everything I can possibly do (in my eyes) to keep things under control and I have still gained 30lbs. I mean, people I know in person usually gained around 40-60lbs during pregnancy but I just don’t understand how so many women on here manage to gain so little.
Anyways, let me know what you ladies think. All opinions welcome!

you’re not alone. I’m only 28 weeks and I’ve gained 44 pounds total so far. I was 124 pre-pregnancy and now I’m 168. I’m 5’3. I eat healthy about 90-95%. When I eat sweets I eat a small amount like my doctor told me to. I walk daily. It really depends on the person, I guess since everybody is different they gain weight differently.
Oh I am with you…so far I have gained 24 lb,when I think about it I just can’t believe! I think that our body and our brain know better then us…it is something that we just can’t have control…unfortunately..:(:(:(
I am 29 weeks tomorrow and my weight before preg.was 106 lb,and 5’2”,so I guess I was a little underweight…but I loved my body!!!
well im a gestational diabetic… weighing at 150lbs and 5’5 pre-pregnancy (i look smaller than i am guess thats thanks too my butt. lol) anways i’ve only gained 22lbs… i think because of the strict diet im on… which is low carb… low sugar… im now 35 weeks… sooo… i guess its what you eat and how much you eat of it. :/ i don’t get it either my sister gained 60lbs when she was pregnant. so i guess im sorta lucky.
(im all baby… from what everyone says)
I am overweight. I have gained 5 lbs at 34 weeks.
it is natural
I put on a total of 27 pounds. I ate all low fat and Sugar free foods. Even though I was told by other pg women to stay away from Sugar free foods. Which I don’t’ agree with. Splenda is not bad for you. And that’s why I didn’t put on 50 pounds like so many women do. But for me it was allot of water gain. I was so bloated by the end of my 8th month. And it took about 1 week after I had him to loose all the water. So that’s what it could be. Don’t stress about it, if you are eating right then you have nothing to worry about.
Alot of factors go into pregnancy weight gain. If you were underweight before the pregnancy you are more than likely going to gain the most during pregnancy. If you are heavy before pregnancy, you probably won’t gain much weight. Also the amount of food you eat, and how big your baby is can affect your weight. You sound like your are ok in your weight gain. Women are different and so is their weight gain. I was about 120 in the beginning and don’t see myself gaining much more than you when I am done. I am 14 1/2 weeks now. It could also do alot with your muscle composition because if you have alot of muscle, your body maybe put on more weight to maintain energy(fat) to support you and your baby if desperate measures ever occurred along with the baby, amniotic fluid weight.
with my first pregnancy I gained 45 lbs. this time i’m 37 weeks and have gained only 23 pounds so far. I was even way more active while pregnant with my first since I had so much energy. This time I’ve been so tired the whole time so haven’t been as active even with my toddler! So I don’t know how I haven’t gained as much as I did this time than the first time. I think your body is just going to do what it needs/wants to do and you don’t have any control over it.
That’s what it says in my book Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.
