Will I Be Able To Continue My Workouts During Pregnancy?

by Pregancy WorkOut DVD

My husband and I plan trying for baby #3 in about 3-4 months. I work out 5-7 days a week right now. I run/walk 2-3 miles, strength training 3-4 days a week, and pilates 3 days. I am very active and would like to continue to do so during my pregnancy. I enjoy working out alot and would go nuts if I was not able to maintain the kind of workout schedule I have now. I know it has to be motified while your pregnant though, just to what extent? What are the benefits of working out during pregnancy? I have two children now and did not work out with them. Will my pregnancy, labor and post-partum be easier? Will my body bounce back quicker? I am at my pre-baby weight that I was at with my first born so I am not overweight.

as long as you have a healthy pregnancy you can exercise like you do now. the only stipulation is is you cant let your heart rate get above 140 beats per minute.
post partum wise the benefits are great. you will have less of a chance of having post partum depression and your body will bounce back alot easier. you and your baby both will be better off.

i dont see why not. most OB’s acctually encourage excersize during pregnancy. i would talk to you dr first just to be sure. he will more than likely not want you to do any hard jogging or running. good luck

Yes you will you just to cut back a little.. It’s actual good to work out while pregnant give you a healthier pregnancy and help to lose the weight after the baby is born

I would definitely continue to work out, its going to help you bounce back from the baby weight you gain, and that way also alot of the weight you do gain is mostly baby.If your early in your pregnancy you can still do many of the excerices you love, but as you get further along you may want to tone it down a little bit don’t lift heavy weights but try more repetition and resistance training which isn’t as hard on you. Also swimming is a fantastic excercise and its great for you while you pregnant bc you are less likely to stress out your body and wear yourself out. Trust your body, if you feel worn out, don’t push yourself to hard :) Congrats!!

Modifications of the exercise might be in order as you progress.
Any good instructor at a gym can assist you with that. Gentler exercise may be needed or not…Much of this is pure speculation as you really don’t know what you will feel comfortable in handling. Be in tune with what your body is telling you. (no pain, no gain, is not the best motto now!)
Yes, my doctor told me that my labour was quick because I was strong and in good shape! Congratulations and best wishes!

As long as you are not over doing it… best bet is to ask your doctor. As long as you are not high risk, you should be able to continue at least most of your routine for the duration of your pregnancy.

You’ll have to scale it back, of course. You shouldn’t do anything that puts strain on your abdomen. Talk to your doctor or midwife about specific information. If you go to a gym, make sure the staff are qualified before you take their advice. Too many provide information saying they are experienced with pregnancy, but aren’t qualified and give wrong information. You don’t want to hurt yourself.

I agree with everyone else and you’re right about all the other questions, makes it a lot easier and also helps keep your energy during the pregnancy. Also, some pilates moves are uncomfortable during pregnancy, so I got a dvd especially for pregnant woman at the Motherhood Maternity store and it was awesome :)

Choose a OBGYN or Midwife now and go over these questions with them if you do not already have one. Each woman is different as each pregnancy. Tell them your exercise routines. They could give you the best advice.

Most advice is that you can keep being active while you are pregnant if this is normal. Adding new activity is typically not safe. Lifting weights is the primary place where you would want to modify. Your doctor will be happy to walk you through what modifications are good and healthy.
Your health now plays a great part in the labor and recovery…I think you will experience a pleasant surprise at how your working out has benefited you in this pregancy.

you can keep working out throughout pregnancy. but, you need to discuss it with your doctor. it’s more a case by case situation. i know my labor was no easier with as active as i am (i have a very psychically demanding job). but, i was induced. i did bounce right back to my pre-baby body.
